STERETT-GITTINGS   KELSEY                         BIOGRAPHY

Often referred to as  “ The New Master of Movement”  Kelsey is widely regarded as the leading Sculptor of Dance in the world today.

Kelsey was graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a B.F.A. degree in Sculpture in 1964.  She works primarily in bronze with works ranging from three inches to  thirty feet in height.  The Kelsey Bronzes are owned by collectors and connoisseurs of investment-level Fine Art around the world.  These masterworks in bronze are in more than 300 public and private collections world-wide.  To date (April 2011 ):  There are 287 original sculptures in Bronze and Porcelain.

The Kelsey Sculptures are hand-made from start to finish. The trans-formation from the clay original, into a masterpiece in bronze, is a long and expensive process.  A new ceramic mold is hand made for each sculpture. It is used only once.  The mold is then destroyed within the casting process.  There are about 35 steps which each work passes through on the way to becoming a completed work of art.  Each sculpture bears:  the copy write symbol: the artist’s logo:  the artist’s name: the date of origin: the edition number and the foundry mark  .Richard Polich; Founder of the world’s two leading foundries; Polich Art Works in Rock Tavern, New York and The Tallix Foundry in Beacon, New York, has enjoyed a special  40+  year relationship with the artist. Together they work as a team to produce the Kelsey Bronzes in the finest Registered Foundry Bronze in the world.  In November 2006,  Polich and Tallix  merged in to Polich-Tallix and are permanently located in Rock Tavern, New York.  ( Visit:  www. PolichTallix.com  )

Artist Statement

Artist’s  Statement

“To capture the Essence of Dance in Bronze has become a purpose in my life. To imbue each figure with an independent spirit; implied movements and an imagined soul; is my joy and passion. Sculpture in the hands of a Master, should speak directly to the soul of man, as do the most moving words of Shakespeare or the most tender notes of Mozart.”
