Apollyon Angel of the Abyss, is both mythological pariah and angel of light and darkness in the Book of Revelation, he appears as Abaddon, keeper of the key to the bottomless pit, this work , draws on Greek mythology to portray Apollyon, the winged reaper, in contemplative mood, burdened with the weight of the souls already claimed and the unborn whose souls are yet to be claimed.\r\n \r\n

Nijinsky Dreaming endeavours to capture the perfection of form and movement all dancers aspire to achieve. Here, the danseur is transfixed in flight, the fluidity of movement frozen as one moment passes into the next, finely poised, as if time, space, heaven and earth, might fall into the grip of his upheld palm.

The Captive began life as a response to my personal conflicts with freedom and space. As the work took form, it acquired a far more piquant meaning and I realised that despite the challenges we face in the free world, for many people elsewhere, oppression has a far harder, physical meaning. The Captive is therefore pitched at many levels, but most particularly it is for the many nameless prisoners held in dreadful circumstances in the dungeons of the dispossessed, stripped of the most fundamental rights, their voices unheard, hidden in the world’s darkest corners. The Captive strives to give them voice.\r\n

A fascination with sculpture that began in childhood compelled me in adulthood to explore for myself the limitless possibilities embodied in the tactile third dimension of this 'living' art form. I embarked on a journey that has carried me across an undulating landscape richly populated with figures drawn from the traditions of myth, magic and the intertwining realms of heaven, earth and the dark, under -towing currents of the supernatural that are endemic to the human heart. All are ciphers for the counterpoints of triumph and tragedy, beauty and vulnerability that define the human experience. These qualities never cease to fascinate and inspire an oeuvre in which I strive to capture the vulnerability and fragility that underlie the riddle of our human paradox.
My studies began with Brisbane sculptor Georgette Schwantes in 2004, working mainly in ceramics and I began casting my work in bronze in 2006. Since then, this exciting and challenging medium has added richness, breadth, and expression to my endeavours.
The bronze sculptures you'll see on this page are the product of many years of hard work and dedication to form and expression. The influences that shape my work have been many, and of course, there have been close parallels between my artistic growth and the way I express myself,
The images in these albums have been grouped to reflect this chronology and the themes that have dominated my creative arc at each stage along the way. I hope they will resonate with your own story.
