Description

The sculpture is a site specific work responding to the Monkquell woodland in Perthshire for the Heartwood 2013 sculpture trail in Scotland. During the winter, roe deer are frequent visitors to this woodland located close to residential houses, looking for food and shelter. However, last year the winter was once again prolonged, and the deer could be seen more often than previously. \r\n\r\nThis deer is alone, having been separated from the others. It is on edge, head turned and ears pricked alert to the slightest sound. The ground and the trunk of a fallen oak tree is dusted white suggesting unexpected snow in September. The work is questioning if our climate is indeed changing, and how are both the wildlife and people coping.\r\n\r\nThe work is constructed from bronze whisky distillery equipment which adds a hidden layer of Scottish cultural history to the work.\r\n
